The Upper Arlington Alumni Association held its second annual Golden Bear Pre-hybernation Rock Fest on Saturday evening, November 2, 2013 at the St. Agatha Event Center. Other than annual dues, this event is the only fund raiser which supports the Association. Sponsors this year included Street Sotheby's Realty, The Arlington Bank, Christian Laver and Associates, Tommy's Pizza Dublin, and Steven's Catering, who also provided the food and drinks for the event.

Attendees danced to the music of the Pat Malloy Band. Members Jim Hilditch '67 and Jeff Johnson '67 played together in the successful central Ohio band, The Fifth Order, while they were students at UAHS. The band had hit records, played all of the local hot spots, appeared on local and regional TV, and opened shows for many national acts. They are best known for their 1966 song "Goin' Too Far," which was the #1 best-selling single in Central Ohio, (and which PMB performed for the appreciative crowd Saturday night). This success led to the national release of their second hit, "A Thousand Devils (Are Chasing Me)." These two records have long been recognized as sterling examples of Ohio's vibrant mid-60s garage rock scene. In addition to Jim and Jeff, other members are Jim's wife, Pat Malloy, and brother, Ron Hilditch '77 along with Bill Lutz '71 and Ric Boals.

Due to the success of the first two years, planning is already underway for the next Rock Fest! Don't miss it!

Chairmen Mary DeCesaro Cameron and Candi Spencer welcome guests. Heidi Greenlee (center) helps out!
St. Agatha Event Center provided a spacious and well-appointed venue for the Rock Fest!

The Upper Arlington Alumni Association (UAAA) Golden Bear [Pre-Hibernation] Rock Fest is an annual fundraiser to benefit UAAA.

Our Alumni Association works to keep our alumni connected, to promote class reunions, and to make it all as easy as possible!

UAAA has created and maintains two separate alumni databases. One is for reunion and historical use, and contains full contact information for each of our more than 32,000 alums. The other is an email database for our Bearalums.com web site, and it consists of more than 12,000 names and email addresses. There are expenses associated with our databases, web sites, our Traditions newsletter, and other materials and services we provide to our reunion committees.

UAAA is completely self-sustaining; this means that even though we are a sub-fund of the UA Education Foundation (UAEF), we are responsible for raising our own funds.

We have two methods of raising money. One is through MEMBERSHIP at one of four different levels. The other is our GOLDEN BEAR ROCK FEST fundraising party.

The 2013 Golden Bear Rock Fest was held on Saturday, November 2 from 7 - 11 pm at the St. Agatha Event Center on Northam Road.

This year, The Pat Malloy Band brought their unique style of rock ' roll, oldies and contemporary music to our party.

Remember the wildly popular Fifth Order from the 1960's? Two of the members of the Fifth Order, Jeff Johnson '67 and Jim Hilditch '67, now play with the Pat Malloy Band.

The music of the Pat Malloy Band had us dancing all evening!
